Molokai 2013 Paddleboard World Championships

Another great year of racing in challenging conditions at the 2013 Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championships. This is a little look back at the race.

For the event, Headline Graphics had the opportunity to produce the Photocloth laminate that was used in the making of the trophy, done by Shannon Delaney and The Ding King – Brian Szymanski. They sealed a Hawaiian stylized image that was printed on Photocloth over wood, partially allowing the grain to show through. The natural rustic look went perfectly with the event.

Thanks to all the athletes and partners for such an amazing year. The 2013 race delivered some harsh conditions, new faces to the podium, and record numbers of athletes and spectators both at the finish and watching the race online.

6th Annual Pipeline to a Cure Gala

This year, for the 6th Annual Pipeline to a Cure Gala benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), HG Photocloth was proudly used in the making of the event surfboard.

Pipeline to a Cure is an annual event held to raise money and awareness for sufferers of Cystic Fibrosis. It grew from the idea to spread awareness of a discovery made by Australian researchers, that children suffering from CF who surfed regularly had significantly better lung health. We now know that the salty air is medically beneficial to CF patients and surfing provides the added benefit of exercise.

As guests, we enjoyed an evening of celebrity entertainment, fabulous food and spectacular silent and live auctions. The annual galas have collectively raised $800,000 to date. In addition CFF and Pipeline to a Cure supporters often organize regular surfing trips for children with CF.

Special guests included Mike & Christine Ness, Laird Hamilton, Tony Hawk, Gabrielle Reece, Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), Jason Lezak, Lisa Andersen, Tom Curren, Dave Kalama, Robert August, and Chuck Patterson, with performances by Mike Ness and the Kalama Brothers.

What do you get when you mix Kentucky bourbon and surfboards?

Drunk surfers? - WRONG.

Killer surfboards for Jim Beam? – CORRECT!!!
Made by the father/son duo of Iron Cross Surfboards? – Even better.
For Jim Beam’s summer promotions they sought out RoughHouse for 60 custom surfboards that could be hung in bars all over Southern California.  After Headline Graphics designing and printing the Jim Beam graphic on the HG Photocloth we handed off the glass work to the local guys at IronCross Surfboards.
Born and raised in Cardiff by the Sea, father and son team Jeff and Jay Grygera brought the project to life, glassing all 60 boards in their factory in San Marcos, Ca.
Meet Jeff and Jay and watch as they mix Kentucky bourbon with surfboards.
