Exciting finds for surfing this November

When it comes to surf, this summer has left us very unsatisfied in Southern California. There were weeks with little to no waves and subsequently, the energy levels among my peers were low. The wave conditions became a conversation staple, “When are they coming back?” we’d moan. We, in our spoiled nature due to a very giving San Diego, were a sad site to be seen.

Now that we’re well into October, thankfully a few fun days of surf have rolled through. Our energy levels are slowly recovering and I can see the excitement building as November approaches.

Not only is the new season bringing much awaited new waves, but there seems to be new styles forming as well. Here’s some exciting finds to look forward to when surfing in Northern San Diego this November.
Funky Shaped Boards
People are opting to leave the traditional shaped long board or short board at home and are taking to the water with more creatively shaped designs, such as the asymmetrical surfboard that’s tailored to different styles and abilities when surfing backside verses front side. Also in abundance is a variety of squatty, egg-shaped boards with some interesting tail designs. My impression is that they’re experimental. It seems, too, that even though the retro fish shape never left the scene, there are more in the water than in previous years.

Custom Surfboards Decks

Not only are people getting creative with their board shapes, but also with the artwork on their board decks. It’s becoming a form of expression and here at HG Photocloth, I’ve seen anything from putting a guy’s face on a board to a full leopard print.

Girls with Cheeky Wetsuits
Yep, that’s right. Women’s wetsuits have become their own with new colorful styles and edgy cuts. The water is warm enough to ditch the full wetsuits and women are taking full advantage of it. I must say, it’s a beautiful thing.

Enjoy the season!
