HG Photocloth vs. Digital Rice Paper

Many are familiar with digitally output surfboard lams. However, most digital lams are printed on Digital Rice Paper even though the material has its limitations and falls short in key areas. HG Photocloth was developed specifically for digitally outputting images for surfboard lams and is a proprietary technology with many added benefits.

Benefits of HG Photocloth Over Rice Paper

1. HG Photocloth matches CMYK color where Digital Rice Paper cannot. The Digital Rice Paper material absorbs about 30% of the color making it less vibrant. An additional 10-20% of the color is lost when the epoxy resin is applied during the glassing of the surfboard. This results in faded designs and loss of continuity between promotional materials.

2. HG Photocloth retains 100% of its blacks, producing photo-realistic images with pristine detail and crisper edges.

3. HG Photocloth provides UV protection allowing designs to stay true to original color. Digital Rice Paper falls short and, with time, the image will fade even more so than when it was applied.

4. HG Photocloth adds strength to a surfboard, approximately four ounces to the total weight. The structural integrity of the Photocloth prevents heel dings and prolongs the life of a surfboard. Digital Rice Paper has no added strength benefits.
